The government and the SD want to investigate a ban on actors outside the EU and EEA from owning Swedish schools, citing security policy.

This is what representatives of the four parties write in a joint debate article in SvD.

The Liberals have been the driving force behind the issue of a ban. However, the appropriateness of such a ban was questioned in an inquiry into stricter rules for independent schools, which produced an interim report in March this year.

In it, the investigator wrote, among other things, that a general ban could conflict with EU rules on the internal market. According to the investigator, the aim could still be partially achieved through the Foreign Direct Investment Screening Act.

But now the government wants to investigate the issue again.

The debate article refers, among other things, to a report from FOI which shows that "foreign antagonists may invest in Swedish schools with the aim of influencing democratic society or controlling and persecuting their diaspora".

The Tidö parties further write:

"There must never be any doubt that Swedish schools must not be a back door into the country for foreign interests and their opportunities to influence our society or act as a front for espionage."

The debate article has been signed by Minister of Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson (L), Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M), SD's school policy spokesperson Patrick Reslow and KD's education policy spokesperson Mathias Bengtsson.
