In February, after the Norwegian Parliament appointed a commission of inquiry into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Center Party submitted a proposal to the Justice Committee that a similar investigation be conducted in Sweden.
There are several Swedish connections in the Epstein files. Among other things, it appears that a top Swedish diplomat received packages from Epstein and lived in Epstein's apartment. There are also connections to the Stockholm School of Economics through businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom, who received donations, and Epstein's former Swedish girlfriend, who testified in favor of his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell in a U.S. court.
The majority in the Justice Committee voted against the proposal, arguing that it could complicate other criminal investigations. The government, however, is not closing the door to a future review should new information emerge.
