A man and a woman have been charged after their three-year-old son was bitten by the family dog, writes Värmlands folkblad. The dog had lived with the family for three months after being rehomed from another family.
According to the father, the dog had behaved well except for a small incident towards the mother a short time before the attack, when the dog made a lunge at her hand as she reached for the collar.
When the father was standing in the kitchen in March last year with his back to the dog, it suddenly attacked the three-year-old and bit him in the face. The day after the attack on the boy, the father took the dog to an acquaintance who, with the help of a rifle, put the dog down.
The parents have now been charged with causing bodily harm. According to the charge, they "failed to take such safety measures as were called for at the time to ensure that the dog could not cause harm to another person”.
The parents deny any wrongdoing.
