The prosecutor corrected the suspicions of murder and attempted murder respectively after taking part in several witness interrogations, according to the police.

The assessment is based on the information available, so there was no intent, says Karin Rosander at the Prosecutor's Office press service.

But the prosecutor emphasizes that it is early in the investigation and that it can change.

A woman in her 60s died and two men, in their upper teens and 50s, were seriously injured when a taxi drove onto a sidewalk at a pedestrian crossing near Triangeln.

The detained taxi driver, a man in his 50s, was also injured but did not require medical attention.

Sydsvenskan's reporter Peter Herkel witnessed the event:

I arrived just after it happened. Then there were three injured people on the ground. It was chaotic scenes. A lot of people tried to help these people.

People threw themselves away in panic, says another witness to the newspaper:

The taxi was not going particularly fast - but it looked like it accelerated when it steered onto the sidewalk.

The police are now working on hearing witnesses and the injured as well as collecting images and videos from the event.

The taxi will be seized for technical examination.
