Three more people were injured in the collapse and are now being treated in hospital, according to authorities.
All six were in the building when it collapsed early Sunday. The survivors were trapped under the rubble before they could be pulled out.
Soweto is a suburb west of Johannesburg. The incident is being investigated, a spokesperson for the Johannesburg Disaster Management Authority said.
