Three people have died as a result of heavy rain and storms in California in recent days. In San Diego, a 64-year-old man was killed by a falling tree on Christmas Eve, the Los Angeles Times reports. Earlier this week, two people died due to flooding.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in several areas, including Los Angeles, to facilitate rapid mobilization of emergency response efforts. Flood warnings are in effect for most of Southern California.

"Life-threatening flooding continues across Southern California today and tomorrow; heavy snowfall in the mountains and strong winds also continue," the National Weather Service (NWS) wrote, adding that "life and property are in great danger."

About 80,000 people have lost power as a result of the storm, and in San Bernardino in southeastern California, people have been forced to evacuate. Many roads have been closed due to flooding. The storm is expected to last until Friday.
