Sam Hallam: "I'm incredibly disappointed"

Extension again and loss again. Three Crowns fell in the rivalry match against Finland, 3–4, and have a long way to go to a final spot. Mikael Granlund sank Sweden. I'm incredibly disappointed that we didn't win during regular time, says national team captain Sam Hallam to Viaplay.

Sweden's fate may be sealed already after tonight's match between Canada and the USA. Sweden is now last in the table with two points. In the event of equal points, the head-to-head meeting will decide, which means that both Finland and Canada are ahead.

Instinctively, it feels over, but I'm not a mathematician, says Hallam.

Sweden had an unfortunate start in the first match against Canada with a 0-2 deficit after the first period. It was then caught up before losing in overtime, 3-4.

This should be avoided now - but it didn't work at all. Despite a leading goal by Mika Zibanejad.

We don't keep the pace in our game in this match. A bit sloppy here and there, he says.

From fiery to ice-cold

Goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson went from fiery against Canada to ice-cold against Finland.

"The Lions" scored two goals on four shots in the first period, and the Minnesota keeper was replaced after 20 minutes.

Anton Lundell and Mikko Rantanen, just 14 seconds before the end of the period in power play, became Finnish goal scorers.

Linus Ullmark came in instead between the posts. The Ottawa goalkeeper was named NHL's best puckstopper two years ago, but has had injury problems and had only played two matches before the tournament after a month-long injury.

He became an injection.

It took just over ten minutes of the second period before the Swedes turned it around at Bell Centre in Montreal.

Rasmus Dahlin made it 2-2 after strong work by Joel Eriksson Ek in front of the goal, and Erik Karlsson shot 3-2 on a pass from William Nylander, who made his best shift so far in the tournament.

But Finland responded.

Had the best chances

Captain Aleksander Barkov pushed in 3-3 from close range after the Finns won the battle in front of Ullmark.

We're a hard-working group that doesn't give up. We had to win this match and found a way to do it, says Barkov.

Sweden was leading the game in the third period as well, but had trouble getting to the really hot goal chances.

We have some great opportunities but fail to get it in and they get a counterattack. We need to play much more directly towards the goal, says Sam Hallam about the deciding factor in overtime.

Sweden plays the last group stage match against the USA in Boston on Tuesday night.
