Earlier this week, a 37-year-old woman was shot and killed by an ICE agent in the city. In a separate incident less than a day later, two other people were shot and injured in the city of Portland.
The events have attracted considerable attention across the country, while perceptions of what happened differ sharply in the polarized United States. The U.S. presidential administration has accused the woman who was shot of using her car as a weapon against ICE agents, who then fired in self-defense. The government of the state of Minnesota, however, has questioned the ICE operation, calling it reckless.
Elsewhere in the United States, many people also gathered at one of the hundreds of demonstrations planned for Saturday.
ICE, which stands for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has received a growing budget since President Donald Trump took office for the second time. With numerous raids, the agency is at the forefront of Trump's campaign promise to deport migrants.
The 37-year-old woman is the latest of at least five people killed by an ICE agent since Trump took office, the AP reports. Most recently, a Mexican man was killed in Chicago in September.
