In both skiathlon and sprinting, the two-meter-tall Haitian has been the crowd favorite at the cross-country stadium in Val di Fiemme.
"Maybe so. I don't know if I'm a star, but I've had a lot of support. You have to have some fun, give the audience as much as possible," laughs Savart.
In terms of results, he is far from the elite. The 25-year-old still trains several hours a day and has a part-time job as a youth coach at his home club in France, Olympic Mont d'Or, where he is a teammate of biathlon star Lou Jeanmonnot.
He grew up in Pontarlier in western France, where he was adopted from Haiti at the age of three. His driving force is to be a beacon for his impoverished and violence-ridden homeland.
"I want to show Haitians that it is possible, that small countries can do it," says Savart.
