Alarms that a bus had rammed a bus shelter on Valhallavägen began arriving at SOS Alarm at 3:23 p.m.
Ambulances, fire engines and police are sent to the scene.
Many people were at the accident site, which is a traffic hub, with bus stops and stations for the metro and Roslagsbanan. The block is home to the Royal Institute of Technology and Engelbrektsskolan, with a thousand primary school students.
Initially, several serious injuries were reported.
The emergency services state that the bus, a double-decker, was not in service and therefore without passengers.
Just under an hour after the first alarm, the police confirm that several people have died: "There are both injured and deceased people in the incident."
Technicians are then on site to investigate the accident scene and secure any traces.
Another hour or so after the accident, the police report that the incident is being investigated as manslaughter and that the bus driver has been arrested. The cause of the accident is not known.
During the evening, the City of Stockholm's crisis support team is on site, and the Kommunal union, which organizes employees at the bus depot in question, is deploying resources to support its members.
At 8:20 p.m., police confirmed that three people had died in the accident. Three people are being treated in hospital, two of whom are seriously injured.
A little later, it was reported that the bus driver was also being treated in hospital.
At 10 p.m., it is reported that the driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death and causing bodily harm, following a decision by the prosecutor. There is no indication that the incident was intentional, according to the police.
