Two colorful finches are pointed out as winners in this year's bird count. The red cardinal has received a significant boost in the north and the lapwing with its clear colors is pointed out as the species that is doing the best in Sweden.

This year's edition of the bird count was completed on Monday. A total of over 12,000 reports have been received, and nearly 600,000 birds have been reported.

The most common birds are still small birds such as the great tit, blue tit, and chaffinch. However, Birdlife Sweden notes several changes on the top-50 list.

The common blackbird has surpassed the great tit in the north, and according to reports from the Swedish Bird Survey, the species has increased by approximately 40 percent over the past 15 years. The increase is largest in the north.

The white wagtail, with its black/white/red plumage, is also advancing on the list of most common bird species. According to Birdlife, it is one of the bird species that is doing the best in Sweden at present. This year, it ranks 12th in this count. When the counts started 20 years ago, it was much lower down.
