The decision comes after a few performances at Royal Albert Hall last month, writes NME. The band also says in the statement that they "have nothing but admiration for Starkey and wish him good luck".
Starkey, who is the son of Ringo Starr, joined the band in 1996 and has since been their full-time drummer.
Zak Starkey hinted earlier this week on his social media that there were tensions between him and the band's singer Roger Daltrey, who was not supposed to have been satisfied with Starkey's performance at Royal Albert Hall. According to Metro, Daltrey complained that he could not hear himself singing, because Starkey played too loudly on the drums.
