In the Middle East, Qatar's Foreign Ministry emphasizes the importance of Syria maintaining its national institutions to prevent the country from sliding into chaos.
Iran has supported the al-Assad regime, and the country's Foreign Ministry states that the Syrians must now be allowed to determine their own country's future without "destructive, imposed foreign interference".
Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan writes on X that Turkey is ready to help ensure security in Syria. Turkey is concerned that the Kurds in northern Syria will strengthen their positions.
The Iraqi government calls for respect for all Syrians' "free will" and Syria's territorial integrity.
According to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "a central link in the Iran-controlled axis of evil" has fallen.
Several other countries in the region, such as Jordan and Egypt, are calling for stability in the country.
Biden: Great uncertainty
US President Joe Biden welcomes the fall of al-Assad's brutal regime, a regime that has tortured and killed its own population. In a televised speech, Biden also warns of the future and says that "great risk and uncertainty" lies ahead.
Biden also notes that the groups that have overthrown the regime have a "grim past" of brutal terror.
US President-elect Donald Trump states on the Truth Social platform:
"Assad is gone. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, is no longer interested in protecting him", he writes.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha writes on social media that "this is how it will always go for dictators who bet on Putin."
Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz describes the Syrian president's fall as good news and adds that al-Assad has countless lives on his conscience.
Macron praises the people
France's President Emmanuel Macron states on X that the "barbaric state" has fallen and praises the Syrian people for their courage.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also welcomes the fall of the al-Assad regime:
"After 14 years of brutal war and the fall of the dictatorial regime, Syria can today seize a historic opportunity to build a stable and peaceful future", he says in a statement.
EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas states on X that the end of al-Assad's dictatorship is a positive and long-awaited development. But there are also those who warn of what may happen in Syria.
"The country must not now fall into the hands of other radical forces, regardless of what form they take", says Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
