Sweden should not plan for a larger expansion of electric roads. This is stated by the Swedish Transport Administration in a report commissioned by the government, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.
One reason is that the development of batteries for electric vehicles has progressed rapidly, which has reduced the need for so-called electric roads where vehicles can be charged during travel.
It is not socio-economically viable to build electric roads in Sweden with today's conditions, says Kenneth Natanaelsson, strategic planner at the Swedish Transport Administration, to the radio.
Furthermore, the Swedish Transport Administration has paused a project to build Sweden's first permanent electric road, which was intended to be built on the E20 between Hallsberg and Örebro.
