Hölting Nilsson, 20, and Andersson, 19, are playing the World Cup for the first time – and they are doing really well.
Experienced Brazilian duo André/Renato were not close to threatening the Swedish duo who won in two straight sets (21–16, 21–14) to secure a place in the top eight.
"It's clear that it's a scalp. André has a World Cup gold medal and Renato has a World Cup silver medal," says Elmer Andersson to SVT.
Good game at net
The first set was even for a long time, but the Swedes took control when they won five straight balls and made 12–11 17–11. The set was eventually won 21–16, not least thanks to Jacob Hölting Nilsson's strong blocking game in front of the net.
Earlier in the World Cup, André and Renato won against the other Swedish pair, Olympic gold medalists David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig, in the group stage.
The Brass had less to say against Hölting Nilsson and Andersson, who gained a slight advantage early on in the second set and then pulled away to a comfortable victory, 21–14.
Of course it feels good, but we're just taking it game by game," says Andersson.
In Friday's quarterfinals, American opposition awaits, Chaim Schalk and James Shaw.
We've played (and won) against them before. A lot of people serve to the shorter guy, Schalk, who's pretty stable. Then they have a bigger guy (Shaw) who's maybe a little wilder.
Two in a row
Åhman and Hellvig advanced from the group stage despite one win and two losses, but have a positive trend in the tournament.
In the round of 16 against the Frenchmen Rémi Bassereau and Calvin Ayer, it was a relatively comfortable victory, 21–17, 21–16.
We played well and steadily in this match, it's nice that we were able to win, Hellvig tells SVT.
In the quarterfinals, Åhman/Hellvig will face the Brazilian pair Evandro/Arthur Lanci.
The two Swedish pairs are on opposite sides of the playoff tree – and cannot meet until a possible World Cup final on Sunday.
It is also notable from the round of 16 that a couple of well-known teams were eliminated. For example, the Norwegian duo Mol/Sørum and Qatar's Cherif/Ahmed have already played in the World Cup.
