Among the winners on the OMXS30 index with the most traded shares, the four major banks stand out, with Nordea rising the most: 1.7 percent.

Telia clearly rose when the telecom operator announced that its media division, including TV4, would be sold to Schibsted for 6.5 billion kronor. After that, the share fell back but closed at a plus of 0.2 percent.

Schibsted's share fell 1.6 percent on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Among the heavyweights in Stockholm, defense conglomerate Saab performed best once again, rising 3.5 percent.

Ericsson rose 2.9 percent, after the telecom giant announced changes in its leadership.

The biggest loser of the day was Volvo Cars, down 2.2 percent.

The krona continues to strengthen. One dollar costs 10.61 kronor, and one euro costs 11.14 kronor.

On the major stock exchanges in Europe, at the close in Stockholm, there were gains in London and Paris but losses in Frankfurt.

In New York, the mood was gloomier, with losses on all three major indexes on Wall Street.
