Federica Brignone has recovered well after her serious crash this spring. So much so that the Italian alpine star dares to believe in an Olympic start.

In September, Federica Brignone still couldn't climb stairs. But now things are sounding more positive from last season's overall World Cup winner.

According to Luciano Buonfiglio, president of the Italian Olympic Committee, Brignone has been given the go-ahead to compete in the Olympics on home soil in February. On Friday, the 35-year-old was presented as one of four Italian flag bearers for the opening ceremony.

Federica Brignone will, based on the tests she has done, compete, says Buonfiglio according to Italian Sky Sports.

In early April, just days after securing the overall cup, Brignone crashed badly at the Italian Championships. She suffered multiple leg fractures and also tore her cruciate ligament.

Other flag bearers will be short track skater Arianna Fontana, cross-country skater Federico Pellegrino and curler Amos Mosaner.
