The Star Shot Away Norway - Exposed to Online Hate

Last year, she shot away Norway's gold chance in the single mixed relay at the World Championship on the final stretch. This year, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold shot away the medal chance in the mixed relay on the first stretch – and was exposed to hate speech afterwards. It's despicable, says Johannes Thingnes Bø to Norwegian TV2.

Norway, along with France, were the big favorites in the biathlon World Championship's first event, the mixed relay.

But after two penalty rounds on the first leg, the day was ruined for the Norwegians. They finished in fourth place in the end, behind France, the Czech Republic, and Germany.

I feel guilty towards the others on the team, but also towards those who are sitting at the hotel and could have performed a much better leg than I did today, says Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold to VG.

She took the blame herself

After her performance in the World Championship, Tandrevold was subjected to online hate. On her Instagram, she showed a coarse message, which Norwegian TV2 was the first to report on.

Superstar Johannes Thingnes Bø commented on the hate post:

It's just idiotic. It's despicable. It's the downside of social media, so it's just a matter of reporting it, he says to TV2.

"Most sorry for her"

And none of her teammates blame her for missing the medal.

It's part of the sport, in biathlon there are small margins and bad luck. Ingrid didn't have her best day, but she shouldn't feel guilty about it, says Lægreid to VG.

Most of all, it's sorry for her, says Bø to VG.

This wasn't the first time Tandrevold failed in a relay context in the World Championship. Last year in Nove Mesto, she shot away the gold in the single mixed relay on the last leg, and Norway had to settle for bronze behind France and Italy. That miss took her very hard and she was inconsolable afterwards.
