Five new players have been added since the Four Nations tournament last winter, where NHL pros participated.
Broberg is one of the new additions - and the only new defender included.
“Impossible to keep out”
It may be a slightly unexpected name. I haven't worked with Philip Broberg in St. Louis, but he's impossible to keep out of the squad. His journey has been sensational. He can compete with the best, says Hallam about the defender in the squad.
In goal, Jesper Wallstedt takes over after Linus Ullmark took a break from ice hockey for personal reasons. The selection comes after a season in which Wallstedt has impressed greatly.
"We are very happy with the three goalkeepers we have selected. Wallstedt has stood out in his class and I know the work he has put in to succeed," says Hallam.
Victor Hedman is in the squad and was one of the six players who received the green light back in June, despite still rehabilitating a long-term injury.
"Victor is doing everything he can to be back and we hope he will be 100%," says Hallam.
“Probably the last one”
Veteran Gabriel Landeskog is in. That pleases the national captain.
"We will do everything we can to ensure that Gabriel has a good, probably last Olympics," says Hallam.
The last time Tre Kronor played a tournament with NHL players was in the Four Nations in February.
The last Winter Olympics with NHL professionals was in Sochi in 2014.
Sweden begins Olympic hockey on February 11 against Italy. The other teams in the group are Finland and Slovakia.
The final will be played on February 22. It is worth noting that all twelve participating teams will advance to the playoffs. The group winner will go directly to the quarterfinals while the remaining teams will play the round of 16.
