In a new report, the authority sharply criticizes the Louvre for having “prioritized visible and attractive projects” instead of maintenance, renovations and technical installations, “especially those related to safety and security.”
The Court of Auditors' report has been planned for a long time but is now being presented just three weeks after the spectacular jewel theft at the Paris museum, reports BFMTV.
The Auditor General points out that the museum's deployment of security equipment to protect the artworks has been "constantly delayed".
The authority has reviewed the museum's management between 2018 and 2024 and notes that the Louvre "despite abundant resources" faces enormous costs that it cannot cover.
