In a deteriorating security situation, the government sees risks of properties being used for sabotage, intelligence gathering, or other activities that threaten Sweden's security.

An investigation has now been set up to review the legislation. According to SVT Nyheter, the law is intended to apply regardless of citizenship.

"This means that the state gets a new tool to stop anyone who uses a property to, for example, plan sabotage or to spy on Sweden. We see that there are situations where property ownership can pose a threat to our country," says Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) in a press release.
