Classified documents in an airport toilet, sensitive conversations on speakerphone and repeated gibberish from the national security advisor. Now former Säpo chief Klas Friberg will review the security work at the Government Offices, reports SVT.

I am honored to work on this important issue, says Friberg, Säpo Chief between 2018 and 2021, to SVT.

He will lead a working group appointed by the government with the task of tightening security. According to a government decision, the task will include reviewing internal regulations and how they are complied with. The assignment is to be reported on March 15, 2026.

In recent years, there have been several high-profile security incidents. Former national security advisor Henrik Landerholm forgot secret documents on a course campus and his mobile phone at the Hungarian embassy.

In August, it emerged that a government official forgot a folder with classified documents in a toilet at Arlanda in connection with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's (M) NATO meeting in Turkey in 2022. Now SVT is reporting on an official under former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) who that same year revealed information about NATO strategy in a loud phone call at the airport.
