The Swedish Public Employment Service is tasked by the government to inform employers and job seekers about the so-called establishment jobs, which have so far helped very few unemployed people.

"Establishment jobs are an important tool for giving more people who are far from the labor market a chance at work. By increasing knowledge about the form of employment, we can create more paths into working life," says Minister of Labor Johan Britz (L) in a press release.

The employment form was developed by unions, employers and the state in January 2024 and hundreds of millions of kronor have been allocated.

But in October this year, only 84 of Sweden's 170,000 long-term unemployed had received a start-up job, according to the Swedish Public Employment Service.

The employment form is a full-time position for a maximum of two years, with the salary largely paid by the state. The idea is that it will then transition into permanent employment.
