In the electricity areas SE3 and SE4 – that is, approximately south of Dalälven – the average price rises on Tuesday to 63 and 74 öre per kilowatt-hour (kWh), respectively. This can be compared to price levels around 25 öre per kilowatt-hour on average over the weekend.
In the price peaks last week – which culminated on Thursday – electricity cost on average 3.57 kronor and 2.44 kronor per kilowatt-hour in SE4 and SE3, respectively.
The electricity prices north of Dalälven have not reached the same heights at all. Ahead of Tuesday, they rise from the weekend's levels to 12 öre and 19 öre per kilowatt-hour in electricity areas SE2 and SE1, respectively.
The price peaks in southern Sweden last week were connected to unfavorable weather for wind power on the continent, icing on Swedish power dams, and high demand in the cold.
But the conditions for generally stable electricity prices this winter are actually in place. The water reservoirs are well-filled and gas prices in Europe – where fossil gas is an important power source – have fallen from their peaks at the beginning of December.
