The World Number One Too Tough – Källberg Knocked Out

Last Swedish player in the grand smash table tennis tournament, Anton Källberg, had nothing to set against world number one Wang Chuqin in the quarterfinals. I lost because he was much better, no discussion about it, says Källberg.

The Chinese player won with 3–0 in sets (12–10, 11–4, 11–8) and is clear for the quarterfinals in the major tournament in Singapore.

Anton Källberg kept up well in the first set, but Wang Chuqin still took the set home. In the second, it was never in doubt, Källberg only won four points. In the third, the Swede had 7–7, but the world number one went on to win the set with 11–8.

I'm disappointed with my performance, of course, I didn't get my game going and was always one step behind the ball. It's no surprise I lost, he was much better, says Källberg to SVT.

I lost because he was much better, there was no doubt about it. Of course, you can always do better, but he made it hard for me and almost played a flawless game.

It was also a loss for the doubles players Kristian Karlsson and Mattias Falck against the world's best table tennis players in the quarterfinals.

Earlier in the day, Wang and the world number two Lin Shidong, third-seeded in the doubles tournament, won with 3–1 in sets.

This is the first doubles we've done since the European Championship and still a sign of strength ahead of the World Championship in just over three months. That's where we need to be at our best in doubles. So it was still an okay match against a very good pair, says Kristian Karlsson to SVT.
