By staying at an altitude 500 meters lower than the Olympic hotel, at just over 1,000 meters, for the last two nights before Friday's mass start, he hopes things will go faster on the ski trail.
"It's a bit of a gamble, but I think it's worth it in this situation," he tells Radiosporten.
"Recovery is worse at high altitude. I hope two nights at lower altitude will give my legs a little more strength."
He has been seventh, fifth and twelfth in the individual races at the Olympics.
"It's very good, but I don't have a medal yet," he tells TT.
About the mass start, he says:
"I have a great chance."
