Malmö FF also lost the last match of the year in the Europa League league phase. Portuguese giant Porto was dominant away from home and won 2–1.

Before the match, MFF had only one recorded point and was thus chasing the first victory of the autumn in the league phase of Europa League football.

The team was led for the last time by interim coach Anes Mravac, who handed over responsibility to Miguel Ángel Ramírez in January.

Mravac offered an unexpected surprise in the starting eleven when 17-year-old Theodor Lundbergh got the chance to start for the first time.

Malmö kept pace with Porto at the start, but it was the home team that created the most dangerous chances.

In the end, Porto also got their reward – twice. Samuel Aghehowa made it 1–0 after half an hour of play and six minutes later he made it 2–0. MFF got a reduction in stoppage time through an own goal.

The loss means Malmö FF are 34th out of 36 teams in the Europa League's league phase. MFF are six points ahead of Ludogorets and Celtic for the final play-off places and are effectively eliminated.

In January, they face Red Star at home and Genk away in the last two Europa League rounds.
