Last year, allegations of bias and political censorship led to a major conflict surrounding the prestigious Swedish Berman Prize in literature.
The entire jury chose to withdraw after the prize's founders, businessman Thomas Berman and his wife Catharina, sought to block the prize being awarded to Georges Didi-Huberman. Ultimately, the award ceremony was canceled.
There is now a new jury, reports SvD. Its members will be kept secret until this year's laureate is announced in the spring, the prize's press spokesperson said, so that they can "work in peace".
The Berman Prize was established in 2020 and is worth 750,000 kronor. It is awarded to an author who works in the spirit of the Jewish tradition. The prize will be presented at a gala this fall.
