We have a bureaucratic government, unlike a people's government – democracy, says Musk according to AP in a video address before the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
We must erase entire authorities, not leave them behind us. If we don't remove the roots of the weed, it's easy for it to grow back.
Defense Next?
Tech billionaire Musk leads President Donald Trump's White House initiative Doge (Department of Government Efficiency), which works with government efficiency and savings. Just over three weeks into the term, it has, among other things, led to the closure of the aid agency USAID, with over 10,000 employees, and the takeover of the consumer protection agency CFPB by the finance minister.
The Education Department, the disaster agency Fema, and the Pentagon headquarters are said to be next in line.
Furthermore, an offer has been made by Musk and the Trump administration to around 2.3 million government employees to resign with retained salary by September. The initiative has been legally challenged, but has been given the green light. When it expired on Thursday night, 75,000 government employees had accepted, writes USA Today. This corresponds to just over 3 percent of those asked and is lower than the 10 percent target set by the White House.
Musk Did Not Win the Election
Elon Musk's foray into the government apparatus has sparked strong reactions in the US and has resulted in demonstrations across the country.
"Unelected dictator" read a sign held up during a protest in the capital last week.
Doge is not a real department, but a "temporary organization". As its head, Musk has been given enormous power, including access to the finance department's payment system, without formal civil servant status or usual Senate scrutiny.
South African-born Musk has, among other things, founded Tesla and Space X and is the world's richest person.
