The conflict is about, among other things, Truls Möregårdh wanting his brother Malte Möregårdh as a match coach at World Championship tournaments instead of coaches appointed by the association.
"Performing table tennis at a world-class level is much about feeling secure", he wrote in a text message to SVT on Monday.
This is a perspective that the table tennis association has understanding for.
"What we can also establish is that in all championship medals that Sweden has won in recent years, including Truls Möregårdh, all have been achieved with the support of match coaches appointed by the SBTF. Among other things, former national team captain Jörgen Persson has spent hundreds of days together with Truls Möregårdh during championships and other competitions".
Has not been utilized
The association writes further that they have not closed the door for a private coach during international competitions that are not team events.
"But this opportunity has only been utilized on one occasion over a two-year period", they write.
At the WTT tournament Singapore Smash at the beginning of February, Truls Möregårdh announced that he wanted his father Carl Möregårdh as coach. Something that the association, according to the Möregårdh team, stopped.
But a total ban, as the Möregårdhs suggest, is not true, writes the association.
"Not a ban"
"The last message given to Truls by the national team captain was that the wish was for the national team coach to coach on site, but it was not a ban on Truls having his father as coach".
The association writes that they are "humble" in the face of the situation and "take to heart the criticism that has emerged" – where they, through dialogue, want to find a solution.
"As things stand now, we are all losers. In a time when the world is changing, we constantly evaluate our organization within Swedish table tennis. Our goal is to find a way forward and work together within the entire national team. For the best of Swedish table tennis."
