17-year-old Mirra Andreeva is through to the semifinals in the French Championships. The Russian prodigy upset Aryna Sabalenka, the world's second-ranked player from Belarus, in the quarterfinals and advanced.
Andreeva fell behind early but turned it around and won the match with the scores 6–7, 6–4, 6–4.
In the semifinals, she will face another upset winner: Jasmine Paolini. The Italian defeated Elena Rybakina, Kazakhstan, with the scores 6–2, 4–6, 6–4 and thereby took a step to the semifinals.
The victory meant that Paolini – just like Andreeva – will play in a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time.
In the other semifinal, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will meet.
