Thailand is returning to its pre-pandemic rules. This means that the time tourists can stay without a visa is halved from 60 to 30 days for over 90 countries, including the entire Schengen area, which includes Sweden. The country hopes this will help curb crime involving foreigners, says Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul.
The announcement comes after a number of arrests of foreigners linked to drug crimes, human trafficking and economic crime.
Shorter stays are also possible. According to the minister, all 90 countries will be reduced to a maximum of 30 days; some may even have a limit of 15 days.
Tourism accounts for more than 10 percent of Thailand's GDP.
