The Lebanese Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987 for aiding and abetting the murder of an American and an Israeli diplomat, will be released shortly. This was announced by a court in Paris.
Abdallah, 73 years old, was the leader of a small militant left-wing pro-Palestinian group that was believed to be behind several terrorist attacks in France during the 80s.
He is one of the prisoners who has been imprisoned the longest in France, over 40 years. Most life sentence prisoners are released after less than 30 years.
