The premiere of the TV series "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is coming soon - and the lead actor, Peter Claffey, is nervous. Or more than that: "I'm terrified," he tells TT.

Not that he has anything to be ashamed of; quite the opposite. But the Irish actor knows the uproar surrounding everything related to "Game of Thrones."

"I loved that series. I really want to have done something that's just as good," he says.

In a way, he's lucky not to live in the US, says Peter Claffey.

When it comes to resurrection, it's nice to live in Ireland. You stay more down to earth there.

Three short books

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” takes place after “House of the Dragon” but about 100 years before “Game of Thrones”. Duncan “Dunk” the Tall is a would-be knight who takes a young boy called Egg as his squire. Their adventures are depicted in three short novels by George R.R. Martin, the man behind the “Game of Thrones” world. The fact that the three books are so short has meant that the television series is also short, six episodes of around 30 minutes each.

"With this format, we can follow the books. If we had done the usual, ten episodes of one hour each, we would have had to come up with a lot of material or use all three books at once," series creator Ira Parker tells TT.

More seasons

Season two is already being filmed.

"Usually you wait to see how the reaction to the first one will be. But we thought it would be a good idea to get started now. We've only taken a week off to do interviews," says Ira Parker.

Peter Claffey is 1.96 m tall and has a successful career as a professional rugby player back home in Ireland. He began studying acting and made his debut in 2022.

"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" will make him internationally famous - and Peter Claffey suspects that an early scene where Duncan the Tall suffers from severe diarrhea will be talked about.

"Even when I read the script, I laughed. And when we did that scene, it was one of the funniest days of the whole shoot. It set the tone. The series belongs in the "Game of Thrones" world, where there is bloody violence, but also humor and absurdities," he says.
