On Thursday, it will be exactly ten years since Paris was transformed into devastation and chaos by coordinated terrorist attacks – with shootings at outdoor cafes, explosions and a massacre at the Bataclan concert venue that led to 132 people being killed and hundreds injured.
One of the terrorists, Salah Abdeslam, survived the 2015 attack and is serving a life sentence in a prison near the Belgian border. On Monday, his ex-girlfriend was arrested after evidence was found that she had planned her own violent attack.
It concerns a 27-year-old French woman who converted to Islam. She is said to have had a relationship through correspondence with Salah Abdeslam. Two other people were arrested along with the ex-girlfriend.
On Thursday, Parisians will remember the terrorist attacks with a series of ceremonies, including a minute's silence at each site of an attack. The ceremonies will be led by President Emmanuel Macron and the capital's mayor, Anne Hidalgo.
After dark, the Eiffel Tower will also be lit up in the colors of the French flag.
