Bahnhof is valued at SEK 6.1 billion in the transaction. The company provides broadband services to more than half a million residential customers and around 15,000 business customers, and with the acquisition, Telenor becomes Sweden's second-largest broadband provider.
The transaction must be approved by the authorities before it can be completed. Once completed, Telenor will make a bid for the remaining Bahnhof shares at SEK 62 each.
"We have built Bahnhof for more than thirty years with a simple idea: to deliver fast broadband and stand up for people's rights online. We will continue to do that. The difference is that together with Telenor we get significantly more muscle," says Bahnhof CEO Jon Karlung in a press release.
