Ted Cruz Says Republicans’ Midterm Loss Was a Rejection on the Scale of Watergate

The Republicans performed disastrously in this year's midterm elections. Now, Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz is sharply criticizing his party for not paying enough attention to voters' most important concerns. “It was a rejection on a scale comparable to the Watergate scandal,” he writes, among other things, in a post on X.

Ted Cruz has been a senator from Texas for more than a decade. His Senate seat was not at stake in this year’s midterm elections, but the party lost its second seat to the Democrats - the first time since 1988.

“When all the votes were counted, it wasn’t turnout that was the problem. Our voters - Republicans, Libertarians and Independents - showed up, rejected our candidates and voted for the Democrats instead,” Cruz writes.

Part of the reason so many voters abandoned the Republicans, he continues, is that too many politicians dismissed the cost-of-living issue. Cruz points to “a very real economic divide” in which the rich have gotten richer while food, fuel and other essentials have become much more expensive.

“Understandably, people were pissed off, and elected Republicans didn’t do enough to address their very real pain.”
