Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has been formally appointed as the country's interim president and will form an interim government until a new constitution is in place, state media report.
Ahmed al-Sharaa leads the Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which has controlled the country since it overthrew the former dictator Bashar al-Assad in December last year.
The new government has also made the decision to dissolve the remnants of the Syrian military that stem from Assad's regime, as well as the security services and the former dictator's Baath Party.
Additionally, all armed forces in the country will be dissolved. It is unclear if the decision also applies to the Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
