According to the result from the inventory period 2025/24, there are approximately 355 wolves in the country, the year before there were around 375 wolves.
"The geographical shift of the territories towards the south and east continues, as the number of territories in Värmland and Dalarna continued to decrease, while the number increased in Örebro and Västmanland", says Mona HansErs, head of the wildlife analysis unit at the Environmental Protection Agency in a press release.
There are several factors affecting the wolf stock, including licensed hunting, protective hunting, and disease.
The inventory takes place every year from October 1st to March 31st and uses tracking in snow, wildlife cameras, and DNA analysis from urine and feces to keep track of the wolves.
