Kullavinbergs Vineyard Expands as Sweden Eases Farm Alcohol Sales Rules

Kullavinbergs Vineyard in Skåne welcomes the reduced requirements for farm sales of alcohol and is already planning for an expansion of the vineyard. But the industry organization Visitia thinks that the requirement for information about the harmful effects of alcohol is "unreasonable".

Now that it is permitted to sell wine on the premises, Kullabergs vineyard expects increased sales and is therefore expanding its vineyard by four additional hectares.

Vineyard owner Victor Dahl welcomes the fact that the Public Health Authority has now decided that it is sufficient for the visit arrangement to precede the farm sale by half an hour.

They have listened to us.

It has happened that international visitors have become angry when referred to Systembolaget to buy the wine they tasted on the farm. This will change completely this summer.

The important thing is that more dare to invest now, says Victor Dahl.

However, the trade organization Visita believes that it would have been more reasonable if the requirement for visit arrangements had been reduced even further, to 15 minutes. Visita's chief lawyer Stefan Lundin also believes that the requirement for oral information about the harmful effects of alcohol is "unreasonable".

It's not a requirement that exists either at Systembolaget or in daily retail when selling alcohol, says Visita's chief lawyer Stefan Lundin.

To be allowed to start farm sales, a permit from the municipality is also required. It is problematic, Lundin believes, that the information about what will apply comes only now.

We would have liked to see greater foresight. But we are fundamentally very happy and positive about getting started with farm sales.
