"Criminals should not be able to hijack a summer cottage's mailbox. There has also been a sale of addresses, which has caused large amounts of fake registrations at the same holiday home," said Minister of Civil Affairs Erik Slottner in a press release.

To prevent addresses from being misused, the Swedish Tax Agency will introduce a service that notifies the property owner if someone tries to register at their address. The owner will then be given the opportunity to submit comments before the Swedish Tax Agency decides on the address registration.

In 2023, the Swedish Tax Agency received a similar assignment to create a notification service, but the new service will apply to "more target groups and in more situations," according to the government.
