Sweden won by just over 40 seconds ahead of France, the Olympic gold medalists, who had taken four women's gold medals (one in the mixed relay) in Italy.

Hanna Öberg decided the race with perfect shooting and a fast leg. When she went out on the third leg, she was alongside France and Norway.

When she handed off to her younger sister Elvira Öberg, Sweden was just over 30 seconds ahead of France in second.

A day earlier, Hanna Öberg had a poor mass start, where she made six errors.

"It was nice to get some revenge yesterday, to show that it was a one-off incident," Hanna Öberg told SVT.

Flag and bowing

Elvira Öberg was able to celebrate in the final stretch - even though it was a little shaky when she had to use two extra shots in the final shooting.

She grabbed a Swedish flag on the run and bowed to the crowd as she crossed the finish line.

Linn Gestblom skied the first leg and Anna Magnusson the second. Sweden shot clean and only needed to use a total of four extra shots.

"Anna and Linn did fantastic legs, but Hanna impressed today; what she did on the range today was tough, so we just had to try to manage it," said Elvira Öberg, whose Swedish team won silver at the Olympics.

“The difficult part”

Sweden's victory was their eleventh relay win all-time in the Women's World Cup.

Sweden had a small chance of winning the overall relay cup, but that required France to finish no higher than third.

It looked like Norway had a chance to beat France at the start, but Karoline Offigstad Knotten dashed that chance in the third leg. Norway finished third, 1 minute, 6 seconds behind Sweden.

Elvira Öberg still enjoyed the Swedish victory in the last relay of the season.

"It's hard to beat. We knew in advance that we had very good chances, so it was nice that we could live up to that," Elvira Öberg said.

The Swedish women had some great days in Kontiolahti. Elvira Öberg won the distance race on Thursday ahead of Hanna Öberg, and on Saturday Elvira came second in the mass start with Anna Magnusson third.

Next week (March 12–15) there will be competitions in Otepää, Estonia, before the World Cup concludes in Holmenkollen on March 19–22.
