Felix Monsén continues with his own effort this season after being dropped from the alpine A-national team.
In Friday's super-G in Kitzbühel, the 30-year-old struck with a tenth place – his best World Cup performance in his career.
On Saturday, the Swede continued to perform strongly. He had start number 49 in the downhill, but crossed the finish line 1.45 seconds after the winner James Crawford, Canada.
Just like on Friday, Monsén shouted out his joy in the finish area. He had the 20th best time when he finished and eventually ended up in 22nd place, earning nine new World Cup points to his account in the pursuit of better start numbers in the future.
Moreover, he got to show off in front of various celebrities.
According to AFP, the audience figure for the weekend's competitions rose to around 90,000 people. For example, Hollywood star and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as former football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, were in attendance.
It's incredible. It feels like a home arena, said Ibrahimovic according to the AFP news agency and continued:
I wish I was a skier, but I can actually not ski!
Monsén's best placement in downhill in the World Cup is a 13th place from Lake Louise, Canada, in November 2021.
