The Swedish Social Insurance Agency expects social insurance spending to increase by SEK 10 billion to a total of approximately SEK 257 billion this year. This corresponds to 17.1 percent of government spending, according to a press release.

The increases are expected to continue in the coming years, mainly due to changes in regulations regarding state support for dental care, a higher retirement age, rising wages and more people becoming eligible for assistance, according to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

For 2027, the forecast is SEK 261 billion in government spending on social insurance.

The expenditure forecast from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency has been sent to the government.
