"I want to hear that the Swedish government is doing everything it can to prevent more people from being killed in Sudan. An obvious way should be to stop arms exports to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The government must put human lives before arms deals," says Kerstin Bergeå, chairwoman of Swedish Peace, in a press release .
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the largest recipient of Swedish military equipment last year, notes Svenska Freds. The export mainly concerns the Globaleye reconnaissance aircraft from the defense group Saab.
In early November, the Green Party demanded that Sweden immediately cease arms exports to the UAE.
Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) said earlier that week that there is nothing to indicate that Swedish weapons are being used in the war.
The UAE is on the side of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia group in the war against the Sudanese government army, which is supported by Saudi Arabia.
The conflict has led to the world's largest humanitarian crisis and at least 40,000 people have been killed, although aid organizations estimate that the real number could be significantly higher.
