IMY gives The Moderate Party and The Sweden Democrats reprimands for having sent sms and e-mail to people without consent ahead of the elections 2022 and 2024.
The Moderate Party sent out a video greeting with the recipient's name in it, sent via sms and e-mail ahead of the parliamentary election 2022.
After TV4 in May 2024 revealed that The Sweden Democrats had run a number of anonymous accounts in social media to create opinion, the party sent out a mass-sms to an unknown number of phone numbers the day before the EU election 2024:
"Do not let TV4's influence operation win the EU election. Vote for The Sweden Democrats tomorrow".
The authority assesses that the mailings, particularly The Moderate Party's personal video greeting, constitute an invasion of privacy and lack legal basis. The parties' interest in reaching voters does not weigh heavier than the individual's right to integrity. The Moderate Party and The Sweden Democrats have thus breached the data protection regulation, according to IMY. No penalty fee is issued since the breaches are not considered systematic.
