World Championship seventh place on 50 meters freestyle last year has taken a sabbatical year.
The two meter tall swimmer graduated from University of California in Berkeley, along with national team companion Robin Hanson, this spring.
But while Hanson is swimming the World Championship in Singapore in just under two weeks, Seeliger has chosen to focus on his civilian career for the rest of the year.
I felt that I need to do something else for a bit. I have been swimming for so long and been to two Olympic Games, he says in a phone call to TT.
No desire to invest
Seeliger works as an investor in Silicon Valley along with, among others, Ryan Murphy, the American backstroke swimmer who has taken five Olympic Games gold medals, one of them in Paris last year.
Right now, swimming is far away for the Södertälje swimmer who represents Stockholms KK. If he decides to quit, he does not think it is too early.
No, I do not think so. I have been swimming for so long and there are many opportunities that I want to take advantage of. If I am to take the next step, towards an Olympic Games medal or a final, then you have to invest one hundred percent and right now I feel no desire to do that, says Seeliger.
"I keep all fingers and toes crossed"
Björn Seeliger was eliminated in the heats on both 50 and 100 meters freestyle in Paris last year and was the anchor when Sweden for the first time since 2008 had a team in the short freestyle relay.
National team coach Martina Aronsson hopes that Seeliger will continue his swimming career:
I keep all fingers and toes crossed, he is one of those who has the greatest potential in Swedish swimming and I really want to work with him ahead.
