Swedish Olympic concerns: Snow makes ski cross track slow

The ski cross course in Livigno was already one of the slower courses. The heavy snowfall did not directly increase speeds. "I like it when it goes faster," said Swedish medal hopeful Sandra Näslund ahead of today's Olympic competitions.

The ski cross course in Livigno is flat and slow. The skiers who were here testing at the beginning of the Olympics also pointed this out to the organizers and wanted it changed.

Adjustments were made, but the track remained slow.

Thursday's snow chaos in the small ski resort in Italy didn't make things any better.

But we'll see... Hopefully it will freeze over and be reasonably good by the time our competition starts, says Sandra Näslund - the reigning Olympic champion and World Cup leader - ahead of the competition, which starts today at 10:00.

However, the 29-year-old doesn't like regular ski cross. She wants it to go fast.

Now I need to have a little more ice in my stomach, be careful, maybe have a little more weight in my boots and not be as quick on my feet as usual, she says.

Näslund still has thoughts of another gold medal, even though she knows it will be difficult to repeat her success from Beijing 2022.

I have a good season behind me and I'm competing at a high level. Then it's going to be tough on a course like this for me, and you have to be there every run and pump out everything you have in your legs.

It will be an exciting challenge.

The ski cross qualifying starts at 10:00 - which determines the seeding for the rest of the race - and at 12:00 it really starts with the elimination heats.

Debutant Linnea Mobärg is also competing today, while Erik and David Mobärg will race tomorrow, Saturday.
