The Swedish National Grid will invest 4 billion kronor to expand the transmission capacity of electricity from northern to southern Sweden. The investment is expected to reduce electricity price differences within the country and lead to lower electricity prices in southern Sweden, writes Dagens industri.
This is not about building new power lines. Instead, existing power stations will be renovated and other efficiency-enhancing measures will be taken.
"We are achieving a very large capacity increase, equivalent to the electricity consumption of three medium-sized cities like Uppsala and Örebro, and which is faster than waiting for new lines," says Daniel Gustafsson, department head at the Swedish National Grid, to the newspaper.
The transmission capacity of electricity from northern to southern Sweden will be increased by 800 megawatts step by step from 2026 to 2029.
