A woman employed as a benefits administrator at a municipality in southern Sweden received new work tasks when she returned from parental leave. Now the employer is sentenced to pay 50,000 kronor in damages to the woman, according to a press release from the Discrimination Ombudsman (DO).

The new tasks involved handling a different type of cases that the woman lacked experience of and did not want to work with.

According to the Labour Court's judgment, the municipality's decision was connected to the fact that she had been on parental leave. A discrimination according to the Parental Leave Act.

An important judgment that clarifies the law's protection for employees after parental leave, says Elisabeth Scholander, process leader at DO, in the press release.

"You have the right to regain your previous work tasks if it is not impossible, for example because the work tasks no longer exist".
